Hiking in Lomas Blancas
Hiking in Lomas Blancas

This is one of the most ideal full day hike for those people who want to have some exceptional physical activity. The area guides for tourists with the use of signboards and therefore you wouldn’t find too much of public information here. It is for this reason I decided to share my experience and the related information about the place as the internet doesn’t have too much of information about it. The place is apt for the adventurers and there are risks associated with developing physical injuries or getting lost in the area. In order to keep things short and simple, the best way back to the ground is the way through which you came up. You must be looking to leave Mendoza very early in the morning so you have plenty of time to hike and also to get back in Mendoza before it is too dark. Make sure that you carry plenty of water with you to keep yourself hydrated.

You are first required to reach the parking lot from Mendoza in Vallecitos Ski Area. It will take you for a 90 minute drive to reach here from Mendoza. Make sure that you get a safe parking and then walk till the lodge. You must stay on the primitive trail, but make sure that you stay high but no by too much. You will see the descending trail into the gully once you reach the ridge crest. You will witness a narrow creed bed once you come down at the bottom of the ravine. This is the place from where you can start to ascend. Now follow that and the upcoming trail upwards.

The piped spring water gets frozen overnight, particularly in the colder months with the ice fall. You will pass the ice falls on your right side just as you ascend upwards. Continue going upwards and soon you will see a grassy and a beautiful valley. You will witness the seeping of the spring water all around you from the ground. I have drunk that water too and I was absolutely fine with that. But, you must be careful as the grazing cattle are also there and uses the same water for the drinking purposes.

If you go up towards the Lomas Blancas then you should move towards the left side of the saddle and also wind up right through the jagged rock to the top. This one is very simple and straight forward and you would definitely love the experience.  Once you reach that place then you will have a spectacular view of Mendoza and the surrounding areas.

If you ever happen to go till the highest summit point, then you will see a cross sign right at the top there. People do put the Southern Wine Group sticker over it which has become a tradition now. Therefore, make sure that you also put one sticker at the cross and send us that picture which will be highly appreciated. The stickers can be freely claimed by mailing Southern Wine Group.
